MyDonda is an innovative mobile application designed to streamline fare collection in Kenya’s public transport system by leveraging M-Pesa, the country’s leading mobile money platform. This solution eliminates the need for cash transactions, making fare payments faster, safer, and more convenient for both passengers and conductors.

How It Works
The conductor hands their phone to the passenger.
The passenger inputs their phone number into the app.
The app sends an M-Pesa payment prompt to the passenger’s phone.
The passenger enters their M-Pesa PIN to complete the transaction.
The conductor receives a confirmation of the payment.
Conductors can also:
✅ Set predefined fares for different destinations.
✅ Track payments made throughout the day.
✅ Improve accountability by reducing cash handling.

What is M-Pesa?

The App is created using Android Studio with a Nodejs backend server and Postgresql database to store the information. Safaricom’s Daraja API is also used to ensure that transactions are carried out seamlessly.
